5 herbs YOU can utilize in your everyday diet

You don't have to be an Herbalist to use herbs.

Growing up around herbs – growing them, foraging for them, ingesting them – gave me a normal view of them that I came to realize most people don’t have. There is a stigma around herbs that you need to be a professional, an herbalist, or extensively educated.

While I have educated myself, and continue to, I’m not a professional, or a certified herbalist. Herbs are the very root and structure of what nature provided to us from the beginning of time. Whether you have a fever, tummy issues, low immune system, hormonal imbalances, or achy joints… (the list goes on and on), there is an herb for everything.

The education comes in many forms – research, trial and error, and most importantly – daily use. The only way to figure out which herbs benefit you the most, is to start and continue using them. They are food, and food is medicine. While some of my favorite herbs are for seasonal or conditional use, I have a handful that I use daily. And let’s be honest, it’s way more than a handful, but for simpleness, I’m trying my best to condense here.

1.      Echinacea. I use echinacea every day for immune boosting. I take my echinacea tincture morning and night, and more in between if I do happen to come down with something. Knock on wood, it’s been a couple years since I’ve been sick with any sort of cold or flu.

2.      Mullein. Tea or tincture form, it’s incredibly important to always seek extra respiratory support. Sometimes I’ll do tincture and tea form daily.

3.      Valerian. Tea or tincture form, it’s so helpful and commonly used for calm, focus, and intention. It helps me so much.

4.      Chaste tree berries. Again, tea or tincture but I prefer tincture. If you are a woman, you can attest to the fact that we commonly and continually need more hormonal support. I take it morning and night to help balance my hormones, keep me on track, and keep my body fighting to the best of its ability.

5.      Lastly, chamomile. Everyone can benefit from a cup or warm chamomile tea before bed. Even if you think you don’t need the extra help to fall asleep or stay asleep, it doesn’t hurt. It’s a warm hug inside of your favorite cup that helps settle the day and recharge before the next one.

If I can ever be anything, I hope it’s reassurance that you don’t have to be an expert to use herbs. Do your research, trial and error, and consult your doctor if you need extra support or have extra questions.

-Start small and see how your body reacts. If something feels off, quit.

-Don’t look at herbs with fear, just respect them and their uses.

-Herbs aren’t going to kill you.

-Herbs aren’t pharmaceuticals.

You don’t need a degree, or shelves of jars, or Latin terminology. You need confidence. And that comes after you simply begin.

I love yall… until the next one, bye!

-With love, Jenn
